Inspired by my Students

I just want to tell the world that I have some AMAZING students!  I teach a program called Ready, Set, Teach! where students who want to become teachers learn how to be a teacher, then get placed into various schools in the middle of the year- by me.  It is sort of like an student teaching internship... and it is just AWESOME to see how some of these kids really bloom.  The class is usually full of creative, fun, outgoing kids that are considering the education field- which makes my job pretty great- I mean just about every project they are excited and ready to be challenged (teacher dream).  Some soon find out that teaching is not their thing, but others are sold.  I am so glad that they get this chance to make sure education is right, that way they don't waste time in college on the wrong major.  The mentor teachers I choose are great and I am so thankful that they allow these high school students to learn under them- I know sometimes it may add more stress on them, but they are wonderful.  Watching my students feel like they have a purpose in other peoples lives is really gratifying and precious.  Some of my students are starting to graduate and find teaching jobs- ahh- I am getting old!

Josh, kindergarten teacher,  is the lone ranger in this class...but next year I will have 7 boys!  Yay:)

So today I am telling the world, or my 4 friends who read this, that my students motivate me to be a better person and to really challenge myself as a teacher.  I guess that is why I am taking on SENIOR SPONSOR next year.  I was asked by one of my Principal's to take on this HUGE task next year, which is very flattering.  So I thought all Easter weekend about it- called up 100 friends, met up with teacher friends... and decided I am crazy, but is a great challenge for me, I will learn a lot, it will look great on a resume, it is the right time in my life to do it, and I have the support of an amazing group of teachers to work with.  What all does Senior Sponsor might include you might ask.... Planning Prom, Graduation, Fundraising, Senior Assemblies...oh you know kind of big things.  It might not be so big if I worked at a small school- but I think next years senior class will have about 700 I have been told.  YIKES!  Luckily they have asked another teacher- Mr. Fahey to help me- he is wanting to become a principal and so I will give him all of the admin stuff- like talking to mean parents and stuff:)  Taking this on scares me BIG TIME, but maybe I need to scare myself to grow.

My first year teaching (4 years ago)...Where does the time go?!?  Such a crazy/ wonderful year.
